Dear Parents, Guardians’ and Students:
On behalf of the staff of Durhamville Elementary School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2020-21 school year. The current Pandemic has certainly created an unusual start to our school year. Although we have had, and will continue to have obstacle in the coming months, I am confident that the partnership we form as parents and educators will be critical to ensure our children reaching their fullest potential.
We recognize that in order to be successful in the current learning models our children will need support from both home and school. A strong partnership between home and school will make all the difference in your children’s education. As partners we share the responsibility for you child’s success and we commit to do our very best to carry out our responsibility to your children.
As the former high school principal my message every year to our students was simple. I asked them to commit to three things
- Attend school daily and arrive on time ready for learning.
- Complete all homework and assignments on time.
- Get involved in the school community.
I add one more for our elementary learners….
- Read daily and develop a love of reading.
As parents we must model this to our children. Read to them often, read what they love, and continue to encourage it. Every task that children will complete in their future will require the ability to process information quickly. Reading is the most critical skill students will take away from their education.
The partnership we form for the betterment of your children has to be based on communication. I encourage you to reach out to your child teacher and always contact us with any concerns. We as a staff will always work towards solutions and resolutions.
I look forward to the year ahead and hope for a return to normalcy. I am deeply honored to be your elementary principal and look forward to meeting all of you. Go eagles!
With warmest regards,
Brian Gallagher
